Allan Saint-Maximin has agreed to join Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, just a year after leaving Newcastle United.
The Frenchman’s four years on Tyneside came to an end last summer, when he followed a slew of other high-profile players in quitting the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League. Saint-Maximin joined Al Ahli alongside Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez in attack, and former Chelsea player Edouard Mendy in goal.
Saint-Maximin scored four goals and assisted 10 others in his first season in Saudi Arabia, helping Al Ahli finish third behind unbeaten winners Al Hilal and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. However, it is expected that the 27-year-old will not play in the Saudi Pro League next season, instead moving to Turkish club Fenerbahce.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano posted on X with an update on the Frenchman: “Fenerbahçe agree deal to sign Allan Saint-Maximin on loan from Al Ahli, here we go!” A deal has been reached for a one-season loan with a lower wage; a verbal agreement is in place while contracts are being reviewed. José Mourinho wanted ASM and was able to persuade the player.
Saint-Maximin will join Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce team, who will be looking to go one step further than last season and win the Turkish Super Lig. Despite scoring an incredible 99 points in 38 league games, Fenerbahce finished second behind Galatasaray, who won 102 points.
