With Buddy Hield allegedly ready to join the Warriors as a sign-and-trade from the 76ers, “Dubs Talk” presenters Monte Poole and Dalton Johnson discuss how the sharpshooting guard will fit in with Golden State.
Now that the Buddy Hield sign-and-trade deal is complete, Warriors fans have given the new Golden State backcourt tandem a suitable nickname.

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were known as the Splash Brothers, but fans have christened the new sharpshooting duo the “Splash Buddies” (h/t SI’s Tom Dierberger).

Hield is one of the league’s finest 3-point shooters, having shot a good 40% from beyond the arc over his eight-year NBA career. While he will never be Thompson’s replacement, he will provide another deadly perimeter shooter to the Warriors’ new look roster.

Warriors fans will remember Hield from his five-season run with the Sacramento Kings, during which time he grew into one of the league’s best long-range specialists, winning the 2020 NBA 3-point contest.

Golden State has made significant adjustments since the start of free agency, dismissing Chris Paul and agreeing to a sign-and-trade agreement with Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks. With the signings of Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson, the retooled Golden State lineup hopes to improve on last season’s play-in-game loss to the Kings.

While the name “Splash Buddies” does not have the same ring to it as “Splash Brothers,” Hield and Curry will continue to make amazing 3-pointers in the upcoming NBA season.
