Newcastle United has been rather quiet in terms of transfers since missing out on European football.
The focus is not only on who can enter St James’ Park, but also on who may depart.
Newcastle’s owners are well-documented to be the richest in the Premier League, but Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) limit their ability to spend freely.
You could argue that during Eddie Howe’s tenure at the club, a great percentage of his signings have performed admirably, with few exceptions.
Lloyd Kelly has recently joined the squad after leaving Bournemouth, and they missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo, who chose to join Chelsea.7
And now there is talk of a striker possibly joining, with the rumour mill churning lately.
According to HITC, Newcastle want to recruit Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored seven Premier League goals last season.
Darren Ambrose was skeptical of this potential move because he argued that replacing Calvert-Lewin with Callum Wilson would be like swapping one injury-prone player for another.
The one significant advantage Calvert-Lewin has is that he is 27 years old, whereas Wilson is 32, so it makes sense in that regard.
However, Ambrose admitted that, as ‘crazy’ as it seems, a potential £25 million deal for Calvert-Lewin ‘isn’t that much for a centre-forward nowadays’, as he told talkSPORT.

“I think Callum Wilson offers you a little bit more than Dominic Calvert-Lewin,” Ambrose told him. “The speed with which he is approaching from behind. He’s good in the air.
“Calvert-Lewin is undoubtedly more skilled in the air. He is much taller; the argument is that neither of them can stay fit.
“In the broad scheme of things, and it’s odd to say in today’s atmosphere, but £25 million isn’t that much for a centre-forward nowadays. If you can keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit, he will offer you something; with Isak on board, you just need to put crosses in and he will get on the end of them.”

When Newcastle was in the Champions League last season, they were unable to spend as freely as they would have preferred.
Aston Villa is finding this out now, as one of their key players, Douglas Luiz, is ready to leave for Juventus.
