Rodri, a Spain midfielder, will miss this evening’s Euro 2024 group round match against Albania due to a new tournament rule.

Rodri, 27, was booked in Thursday’s 1-0 triumph over Italy and cautioned in his country’s Group B opener against Croatia, 3-0.

Rodri received a yellow card for pulling Bruno Petkovic down inside the penalty area after he ran through on goal, but was not sent off despite yielding a penalty.

According to UEFA’s rules this summer, a player who receives two yellow cards will miss their team’s next match, forcing Rodri to watch from the stands tonight.

UEFA implemented various measures before of the competition to combat dissent.

The days of players crowding referees to protest decisions are over, with UEFA announcing that only captains will be able to engage in communication with the officials.

As a result, any player proven to have engaged in dissent will be booked.

During the match against Italy, Rodri was penalized for seeming to argue with referee Slavko Vincic after a late challenge.

Federico Chiesa’s tackle on one of Spain’s players generated outrage in the camp, and after teammates addressed the referee, Rodri was booked.

Captain Alvaro Morata was the only player permitted to speak with the whistleblower.

Spain has made ten changes, with head coach Luis de la Fuente using the fact that his team has already qualified for the final 16 to rotate the lineup.

David Raya has been chosen ahead of Unai Simon in goal, while Real Madrid striker Joselu, their Champions League hero, will start at No. 9.

Ferran Torres and Mikel Oryazabal have also been given their first starts of the tournament, while Jesus Navas, a former Manchester City player, is at right back.

Aymeric Laporte, the defender, is the only player who has remained in the starting lineup.
