Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will be looking to shed some marginal players this summer to make room for new arrivals at Parkhead.

Last season, there was an element of irritation that came to the forefront as he felt his squad was bloated across the board, something he aimed to change at the turn of the year.

David Turnbull, Yosuke Ideguchi, and a slew of leaving loanees all contributed to the squad’s reduction in size; nevertheless, Benjamin Siegrist remained at the club despite speculation that he was about to leave.

According to Transfermarkt, the Swiss goalkeeper joined Dundee United two years ago but has only played twice for the defending Scottish Premiership champions.

Nonetheless, he appears to have revealed his possible fate this summer in an intriguing interview.

Benjamin Siegrist says he may quit Celtic shortly.
Siegrist told Blick that he may leave Celtic this summer and that he intends to establish a foundation in Australia as he approaches football retirement.

He said, “After my last day of work, I’ll leave as soon as possible.” And I will never return here (to Celtic). No. I’m going to retire in Australia. But not yet. Britt has already stated that she is open to doing her show from Europe (his fiance). “We’re thrilled.”

To be honest, Siegrist’s approach at Celtic has not been particularly effective. Despite being a great stopper, he has scarcely booted a ball in anger for the club, thus a clean split would be a wise move for both sides.

The Bhoys are looking to bring in new goalkeepers, and if he leaves Parkhead, could this open the door for two new stoppers this summer?

In any case, there doesn’t appear to be much possibility of Siegrist playing again at Parkhead in the foreseeable future, so maybe he can find a fitting destination and repay the Hoops’ transfer fee.

The market appears to be in a state of calm before the storm, and it’s possible that outgoings are required to make way for arrivals.
