New Miami football commit Takaylen Muex, an interior offensive lineman, has been compared to a current Hurricane by offensive line coach Alex Mirabal.
Takaylen Muex, a three-star 2025 inside offensive lineman who committed to Miami on Thursday, was compared to current Hurricane Anez Cooper by position coach Alex Mirabal, according to CaneSport’s Stephen Wagner. Cooper was a three-star high school prospect.
Muex is presently listed as the 84th IOL and 152nd player in Florida by 247Sports. Muex is not included in the 247Sports composite rankings. Cooper was the 1,149th player, 109th IOL, and 47th prospect in Alabama for the 2022 class. Cooper has appeared in 23 games, making 17 starts, across his two college seasons.
Muex’s recruitment process progressed quickly. According to Wagner, Miami extended an offer to Muex on May 7, and he visited 13 hours later before committing just over a week later. Muex is the sixth commit to Miami’s 2025 class and the only active offensive lineman. Miami has previously received a commitment from three-star offensive tackle LaMar Williams.
According to his 247Sports page, the only other power conference colleges that have offered Muex are Central Florida, Louisville, and Syracuse. Muex will make formal visits to Miami the weekend of May 31, UCF on June 7, and Florida Atlantic on June 14. Miami briefed Muex on their recent OL development.
Except for center Zach Carpenter, all of the offensive linemen on Miami’s projected two-deep depth chart have eligibility beyond 2024. Left tackles Jalen Rivers and Cooper will be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. Muex is expected to surge in the recruiting rankings after signing a national letter of intent in December.
Miami added OTs Juan Minaya and Deryc Plazz, as well as IOL Nino Francavilla, to the offensive line in the 2024 class. Markel Bell, a massive junior college OT, has also signed with Miami for the 2024 class. Miami will almost certainly add additional OL in the 2025 class.
