Orlando Pirates set to retain top ‘Thalente’

Orlando Pirates are expected to complete a key deal to retain the services of a talented midfielder who impressed this past season.

Orlando Pirates are already making significant adjustments behind the scenes as they prepare for next season following a spectacular triumph in the Nedbank Cup final.

Notably, Thalente Mbatha, who was Man of the Match in the Nedbank Cup final, is expected to sign with Pirates, which will undoubtedly please Buccaneers fans.

Having joined Pirates on a six-month loan from SuperSport United, the 24-year-old soon established himself as a regular member of the squad.

The Soweto giants have the first option to convert the loan into a permanent move, and his agent, Mike Makaab, has plainly stated that this will occur.

A social media user asked Makaab if “Pirates have shown any interest in triggering the Mbatha permanent move clause yet?” and he confidently responded: “It will be done, yes.”

This news comes as Makhehlene Makhaula, another Pirates midfielder, prepares to commit his future to the club, according to a conversation with Robert Marawa on 947.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING IN ORLANDO, PIRATES COUNTRY?
Earlier this week, Pirates confirmed that Assistant Coach Sergio Almenara was leaving the club by mutual consent.

“This is a decision I made with heavy heart,” Almenara explained. “I have greatly liked my time here, but owing to personal issues that the club is aware of, I am unable to continue with my employment. I have a young family back in Finland. They have failed to integrate with the country. I would have liked to remain longer, but sadly, that is not possible.

“I’d like to thank management, the technical team, the players, and, most importantly, the fans for allowing me to stay. “I will always be a Buccaneer.”

TWO OTHER DEPARTURES

The departure of striker Souaibou Marou has also been announced.

“The Cameroonian, who joined us at the beginning of the season, is free to join any club of his choice,” a statement read on Monday.

This was followed by confirmation on Tuesday that Fortune Makaringe would be departing the club.

“Following four incredible seasons and over 140 matches, our journey with the 31-year-old midfielder has come to an end,” said a statement.

“Words cannot adequately describe our gratitude and appreciation to Makaringe. Throughout his stay with us, he displayed unwavering professionalism and discipline.

“The club will always be grateful for his contribution and wishes him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.”
