Analyst Believes Ravens Should Be Upset With Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens’ standout quarterback, is making headlines for a reason that every team dreads having its leader discussed.
He has missed voluntary workouts and is now $750,000 poorer as a result of failing to show up and forfeiting scheduled bonuses.
The good news for the Ravens and their devoted supporters is that Jackson reversed course on Tuesday and joined his teammates on the practice field.
This did not sit well with at least one critic.
NFL expert John Middlekauff told The Volume, “If I’m the Ravens, I’m pretty pi****d off.”
Remember that the two-time NFL MVP agreed to a new five-year, $260 million contract last year.
This means he can afford to pass up $750,000 in exercise bonuses.
Still, Middlekauff stated that the quarterback is the team’s leader and is well compensated for his work.
As the analyst stated, Jackson is “the face of the franchise all year round” and should follow in the footsteps of other team leaders such as Patrick Mahomes.
After all, isn’t it the Kansas City star that Jackson and every other NFL quarterback are chasing?
Money considerations aside, and $260 million certainly means not having to worry about finances, failing to attend workouts with the team you are expected to lead is a very negative look.
As rookies and free agents join the club on the field, they all look to Jackson as the franchise’s leader.
Having him skip exercises, no matter how voluntary, does not convey the message that every NFL organization wants its players to receive.
