Orlando Pirates never hesitate to make judgments. Two players have already left, and another five are anticipated to follow suit.

Orlando Pirates, the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup champions, had a busy week. Two players have been released, and another five are expected to leave.

Orlando Pirates release striker and midfielder.
Cameroonian attacker Souaibou Marou was released after only four appearances this season, according to the club’s announcements on Monday and Tuesday. Fortune Makaringe has also been let go after 14 games.

Given the decisions made regarding playing time, five more Orlando Pirates players are set to leave owing to insufficient contribution and expired contracts.

Richard Ofori, goalie, made three appearances.
Goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane made one appearance.
Bandile Shandu, right back—16 appearances.

Thabang Monare, central midfielder – 19 appearances plus an expired contract.
Kermit Erasmus, forward, made 11 appearances.
The Orlando Pirates, led by Jose Riveiro, had a successful season. Innocent Maela, the Buccaneers captain, divulged one of the secrets.

JOSE RIVEIRO’S SUCCESS AT ORLANDO PIRATES
The 48-year-old Spaniard came in June 2022. Orlando Pirates won their fourth Nedbank Cup trophy on Saturday, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in Mbombela after two seasons. Kabo Yellow’s Themba Zwane scored first, before Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng equalised and won for Orlando Pirates.

“When you talk about the coach, you know, it’s all about how we prepare every day for these moments,” the Orlando Pirates captain told SABC Sport.

“He always tells us that you don’t prepare for the cup final a week leading up to it, you prepare for such moments each and every day and I think he has installed that mentality within the team, within the group and I’m not surprised that the boys are performing like this when it matters the most,” the Orlando Pirates left back and central defender said.

“I’ve always stated that it’s vital for us to make sure that when we’re given the opportunity, we go out there and grab it.

“The coach warned us before the game that we needed to be ready as the week progressed since this game requires a specific plan and different players with different skills. So we knew this was going to happen, and happily, it worked out for us,” Maela added.

Happy with the quality of football.
Riveiro told the media on Saturday night that the team had evolved and matured since last season.

“If you ask me as someone who is constantly participating in the group and knows who we are, what you used to call ‘cooking’. We’re cooking, and I believe the team’s improvement and evolution this season is superior to the previous season,” the Orlando Pirates coach told the Sowetan.

Despite finishing with fewer points than last season, Riveiro believes that the football was better this season.

“That means 8/10 or 7 and a half, I don’t know, it might be our fans the ones who will in the end and you guys judge the work that we do but me because my position maybe an important part in the group, like I said before the final this season in terms of football is better than the last season,” the captain of the Orlando Pirates stated.

Meanwhile, with the CAF Champions League coming up next season, the Buccaneers are anticipated to sign a lot of fresh players to boost depth. Thabang Monare, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Zakhele Lepasa, Katlego Otladisa, and Souaibou Marou are all slated to go.

This indicates that Orlando Pirates will focus on signing strikers and midfielders.
