NEWS NOW: Hawks Star has been signed by the Warriors for $114 million.
Proposed NBA Trade Has Warriors Go All-In With $114 Million Hawks Star
Regarding the movements the Golden State Warriors will make over the offseason, there are a lot of rumors circulating. With Klay Thompson poised to face free agency and Draymond Green coming off yet another turbulent season, Golden State may decide to make a change.
Additionally, the Warriors might try to push Thompson, Green, and Steph Curry one last time. Five trade suggestions were compiled by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report for teams hoping to make a big splash the next year.
The Warriors are reportedly in negotiations to acquire Dejounte Murray, a standout guard with the Atlanta Hawks. Similar to the Warriors, there are a lot of whispers surrounding the Hawks regarding whether or not to break up Murray and Trae Young.
According to the trade proposal, Golden State would send Atlanta Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Gary Payton II, and an unprotected first-round pick in 2025. Murray would be the centerpiece of this massive trade when he went to the Warriors.
Let’s examine if the Warriors or Hawks would benefit from this trade proposal.
Murray would effectively join Curry, Thompson, and Green as a member of the big four for the Warriors. Murray, a member of the All-Defensive team and a former All-Star, has many positive qualities.
With 78 starts this season, Murray averaged a career-high 22.5 points, 6.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 36.3% from outside the arc. Regarding the cost, Murray is set to start a four-year, $114 million contract that will expire after the 2027–2028 campaign.
Murray has a $25.4 million cap hit for the upcoming year. All of this makes perfect sense for a point guard who keeps putting up good work.
“After finishing 10th in the West and missing the playoffs, the Warriors should be playing like a desperate team this offseason,” Swartz stated in the story “Blockbuster NBA Trades for Teams Ready to Risk It All” published on May 9, 2024.
Curry would still be able to guard the smaller backcourt opponent and concentrate more on his shooting, which is always beneficial for him, rather than creating plays for other players. If Klay Thompson re-signs, he can still start for the club as a small forward, which would be ideal as he approaches his 34th season.
“Giving up some of the young talent is necessary to get an All-Star talent like Murray, and the Warriors still get to keep Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis.”
What the Hawks do in the offseason is still unknown. Although there is potential on the squad, players like Young and Murray have not been able to gel together.
In a special interview with Heavy Sports, Taylor Rooks, a resident of Atlanta, discussed the trade speculations involving the two Hawks guards. Rooks speculates that Young might be the guard traded by the Hawks front staff in the offseason.
In an interview with Heavy Sports on April 18, the TNT Sports analyst stated, “I am a big advocate of wanting every player to get into the situation that works for them” when asked what players should do in the offseason. In my opinion, if Trae and the Hawks have a discussion and they conclude that, “Well, this hasn’t been working,” Clearly, 2021 was a fantastic year for us. The Eastern Conference Finals were attended by us.
