Behind The Scenes: LSU DT Target Damonic Williams Reveals Transfer Destination

Williams says he’s going to Norman and shares the location of his 2024 ballgame.
This week, the LSU football team extended a warm welcome to Damonic Williams, their top target on the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Following four formal visits to LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri, the top-ranked defensive tackle available as a free agency has now disclosed his choice to transfer.
After a rigorous Transfer Portal procedure, the TCU star will take his skills to Norman and join the Oklahoma Sooners, he announced on social media on Thursday night.
A behind-the-scenes look at Williams’ choice is provided below:

Williams’ first trip was to see Oklahoma for their April 20 spring game, where the program had great expectations. An athlete ready to explore all that each institution had to offer, both on and off the field, the NIL package was as good as it got.

From there, the best uncommitted defensive tackle made his way to Austin to spend several days in the company of the Texas Longhorns. Steve Sarkisian and his associates lavished him with fine dining and accommodations at the Four Seasons Hotel, along with a Lamborghini for him to use while touring the city.

Then the situation became much more intriguing. Williams decided to visit Missouri instead of Boulder, where he was scheduled to meet with Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffs.

And lastly, the journey to Baton Rouge, where Williams spent Monday night and Wednesday afternoon. When he left, many who were aware of his recruitment strategy believed LSU had a good chance to outbid rivals for his services, but Texas and Oklahoma intervened quickly.

Before a decision was made public, sources claim that Williams met with the Longhorns and Sooners on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The NIL packets were impressive from there.

In the end, the combination of the Sooners’ NIL package and SEC eligibility made it possible. His mother, brother, and mentor were the Williams Camp throughout the process; it is said that his mother fell in love with Oklahoma right away.

The choice has now been made. The best uncommitted defensive tackle available via the NCAA Transfer Portal will bring his skills to Oklahoma to join the Sooners as they get ready for their SEC debut.
