This past season, the former Aggie forward/center was named the Mountain West Player of the Year and an honorable mention on the AP All-American team.
LOUISVILLE, KY: The men’s basketball team at Louisville is expected to welcome another outstanding transfer.
According to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, former Utah State forward/center Great Osobor, who was named the Mountain West Player of the Year and an AP All-American honorable mention this past season, is scheduled to visit Louisville the following week. Osobor will be in town from May 1-3, right before the Kentucky Derby.
Goodman claims that Osobor has three more scheduled visits. He is scheduled to visit Kentucky from April 29 to May 1. Following his visit to Louisville, he will fly to Texas Tech from May 4-6 and then make a call at Washington from May 7-9.
If the 6-foot-8, 250-pound big man decides to sign to the Cardinals, Louisville would be acquiring a huge asset. He started every one of the Aggies’ 35 games and finished each one with 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 steals. His field goal percentage was 57.7 percent.
Osobor had a significant role in Utah State’s victory this year. The Aggies finished with their highest final AP Poll position (No. 22) since 2011, won 28 games, their most since the 2018–19 campaign, and qualified for their first-ever NCAA Tournament second-round appearance since 2001—while finishing just fifth overall.
The product of Bradford, England attended Montana State for his first two years of college before moving to Utah State to work for head coach Danny Sprinkle. He was named Big Sky Sixth Man of the Year in 2022–23 as a sophomore after averaging 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 34 games with two starts. In 35 games and a start during his true freshman season with the Bobcats, he scored 6.0 and 4.2.
The Cardinals’ squad started to change soon after the terrible 2023–24 season came to an end, leading to the dismissal of second-year head coach Kenny Payne. All twelve of Louisville’s scholarship players have actually logged into the portal; the only one expected to return is walk-on guard Hercy Miller.
Thankfully, Pat Kelsey, the new head coach, has already begun to use the gateway. Since formally being announced as the new head coach on March 28, Kelsey has signed six transfers thus far.
Following Kelsey from Charleston are guard Reyne Smith and center James Scott; James Madison guard/forward Terrence Edwards Jr., guard J’Vonne Hadley from Colorado, and guard Koren Johnson from Washington are all joining the team. Center Aly Khalifa from BYU also committed, however he will sit out the 2024–25 campaign.
