In the Isuzu FA Trophy, GATESHEAD made back-to-back visits at Wembley by defeating Macclesfield, a resolute underdog, amid the gale force conditions on Tyneside.
The semi-final was not a very pretty sight due to the heavy wind, but Gateshead, who were chasing the National League play-offs, managed to terminate Macclesfield’s incredible Trophy run.
In front of a crowd of 3,000 people at the International Stadium, the rebuilt Silkmen trailed within five minutes despite having scored 21 goals and given up just three in their seven Trophy matches.
