The NBA declared on Monday morning that Kyrie Irving is the Western Conference Player of the Week for the games played from April 1 through April 7.
With an average of 31.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, three assists, and 1.5 steals per game, Irving won the award. He also had percentages of 52.4 from the field, 40% from three, and 93.1 from the free throw line. In those games played last week, the Mavericks went 3-1.
Sunday’s thrilling comeback victory over the Rockets featured Irving going off for a season-high 48 points, which served as the final punctuation. Since being moved to Dallas last year, Irving has scored 48 points, the highest in a Mavericks uniform.
Irving’s play has allowed the Mavericks to hold onto their fifth-place ranking in the Western Conference and keep those teams at bay, even though they haven’t moved up much in the rankings. With 48 victories, the Mavericks might become the second team in the last ten years to reach the 50-win plateau.
This is Irving’s first Player of the Week award since 2015, when Irving was on the Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s also the second consecutive week a Maverick has won the award, with Luka Doncic winning it the previous week. A Maverick has won the award in four of the last seven weeks now, according to Mavericks PR.
