Purdue football: Aidan O'Connell somehow endures despite deeply personal tragedy

Many of the top quarterback prospects are now on visit with the Las Vegas Raiders, and it seems certain that they will select at least one of them in the 2024 NFL Draft. They could have to wait for further rounds, though.

The Raiders can’t select one of the top four prospects unless they move up since they don’t have a first-round pick until No. 13. The team might choose to hold onto its position at No. 13 and select Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr., but that might be a stretch. One of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the draft, Spencer Rattler ought to be accessible in later rounds.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid thinks that the Raiders will bypass taking a quarterback in the first round and will instead select Rattler with their third-round pick.

Reid stated in a blog published on April 4 that the Raiders “probably won’t stay out of the QB running, especially after Jimmy Garoppolo lasted one season (partially on the bench) with the team and signed Gardner Minshew this offseason and drafted Aidan O’Connell in the fourth round last year.” “An additional passer needs to be added to the roster, regardless of whether a trade is made at the top of the draft, where the Raiders select at No. 13, or anywhere on Day 2. Although it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Raiders move back into the first round later on in order to grab a quarterback, it makes sense to look to Rattler in this scenario because five signal-callers are already off the board.“I made the rounds to a bunch of pro days over the past month, and I came away really impressed with Rattler. He has had a solid pre-draft process overall. Rattler is a balanced and in-rhythm thrower, and despite playing behind a struggling offensive line, he finished 2023 with 3,186 passing yards and 19 touchdown passes. The talent is obvious, but quicker decision-making under pressure is still needed.”
