K.J. Osborn can’t believe it’s already been a year.
In March of last year, the recently signed wide receiver for the New England Patriots made headlines when he pulled a man out of a flaming automobile in Austin, Texas. Osborn, who was in an Uber, leaped out when he saw the blazing automobile, assisted in removing the victim from the vehicle, and brought him to safety.
One day after he signed a formal contract with the Patriots, on Wednesday, Osborn told the tale again and discussed his bravery in remarks to media in New England for the first time.
“I ended up falling down with three or four other people, and we got this man out of the car.” It felt like fifteen minutes, but it was actually two or three minutes when it all transpired. After that, I grabbed him up and moved him maybe twenty yards away from the burning automobile, according to Osborn.
The man Osborn saved, Nelson Thomas, happened to be a reality TV personality. Osborn shared Thomas recently had to have his foot amputated due to lingering effects from the crash.
“I’ve been following his journey and things like that, I’m obviously happy that he still has life,” Osborn said. “He’s still recovering from that, so he’s definitely in my prayers. I’m sure that was a tough decision. He’s still been battling with that.
But it’s true that, as I said when I wrote, the right spot at the right time. God was there with me and with others. One of the things I mentioned to them at the time—they had no idea I was an NFL player—was that I thought this tale would be published. “K.J. Osborn Saved Nelson From The Burning Car” will be featured. It was a team effort, not simply me working alone. Many individuals participated.
Last season, Osborn claimed to have hosted Thomas and those that assisted in Thomas’s rescue at a Minnesota Vikings game.
“It was really special,” he said. “Next I want to reconnect with Nelson. So, you know, it’s crazy it’s been a year.”
After four seasons with the Vikings, Osborn signed a one-year deal reportedly worth a maximum value of $6 million with the Patriots. Osborn told reporters he’s excited to get started in his next chapter and believes he can boost the Patriots receiving corps with his experience and versatility
