About Mikey Johnston, a star player for West Brom, Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, said they will ‘look at it’ in the summer.
Since joining The Hawthorns, the 24-year-old has experienced great success and has one of the greatest goals to games ratios. In the ten games he’s played for the Baggies thus far, he has six goals and one assist.
Johnston had only four starts in the first half of the season prior to travelling to the West Midlands, indicating that his playing time was restricted. Since then, he has been lighting up West Brom, scoring four goals in his last three games, sparking calls for the team to sign him permanently.
Though the 24-year-old’s contract at Celtic Park expires in the summer of 2026, West Brom may have to pay a hefty transfer price to sign him long-term if they are promoted to the Premier League.
“I spoke to him in the summer when he was looking to go on loan and I said stay and get your training right because you’ve not had a period of training consistently never mind playing games,” Rodgers stated in an interview with the Daily Record.
He was able to accomplish that, and after that, he made an appearance for us in a few games. After that, it was time to get him some playing time. He has performed admirably and demonstrated the talent that everyone is aware of. Hopefully he keeps going with it, and in the summer we can take another look at it.
In other news, Shaun Maloney is reportedly a candidate for the Watford manager position, according to Football Insider. After firing Valerien Ismael, the Hornets are looking for a new manager. Despite Tom Cleverley’s impressive start against Birmingham City, they may consider other options.
Maloney has been in charge of Wigan Athletic since January 2023 and holds the position as manager. Despite receiving multiple point deductions, he was unable to stop them from getting demoted and has since stabilized the team.
