Warriors mania has taken the world by storm, and Golden State coach Steve Kerr is the most recent to endorse the hottest ticket in town.
New Zealand, headed by rookie coach Andrew Webster, is on a high, having guaranteed a berth in the NRL’s top four for 2023.
With a track record of selling out stadiums all over the Tasman, the Warriors are poised to make their finals debut for the first time since 2018, hoping to win their first grand final since 2011.
Reporter Zion Dayal of 1News questioned Kerr about the Warriors as Team USA was ready to play New Zealand in the FIBA World Cup.
The 57-year-old, who has four NBA titles under his belt with Golden State, boarded the hype train and gave his best “Up the Wahs!”
“Up the Wahs” is a term that’s said over there. Dayal remarked, “We were wondering since the Warriors are flying so high, you coach the Warriors.”
Could one Warriors coach give the other a “Up the Wahs”?
“Up like U and P? The Wahs, that is? Yes, just like the Warriors,” Kerr answered.
So tell me, what are your thoughts on the New Zealand Warriors’ current season? Are they able to win the NRL?
After the Warriors’ triumph over the Dragons, Webster gave the Golden State manager credit for coming around to his way of thinking.
Webster made a joke, saying, “He’s a Wah from way back.”
“He called me and Banga (Tohu Harris) and offered us some guidance, did he not?”
Indeed, Harris replied.
“I’ll act as though I saw it even though I didn’t. However, I’m glad he did that; it’s excellent,” Webster continued.
One NZ, a mobile phone carrier in New Zealand, also joined in and renamed their network “Up the Wahs.”
Reece Walsh, a former fullback who signed with the Broncos before the 2023 campaign, likewise gave a “Up the Wahs” following his team’s victory over the Cowboys in Round 23.
