Even after signing Noah Igbinoghene over the weekend, Washington was widely acknowledged as still needing additional cornerback support before to the draft. It appears that Adam Peters and associates concurred. The Chargers’ Michael Davis, a cornerback, was added to the team this morning.

Having been a member of the Chargers for seven seasons, Davis started thirteen games in the previous campaign.

Perhaps the busiest team in free agency thus far this offseason is the Washington Commanders. With a ton of cap space, the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and a new coaching staff, the Commanders are hoping to start winning again. They have added a lot of talent in free agency thus far, and they are emerging as a team to watch.

The Commanders are still adding players to their roster even if many of the major stars are no longer available. In an attempt to strengthen their secondary after losing Kendall Fuller to the Miami Dolphins, they signed Michael Davis, a former starting cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers, to fill the void.

Although he’s hardly the best cornerback of all time, Davis has started every game for the Chargers the last five and a half seasons. He’s a large, strong defender who can hold his own on the outside. Finding a successor was essential after losing their best cornerback, Fuller, to free agency, and Davis appears to be the right choice.

Given Washington’s need for secondary depth, Davis should be well-positioned to gain a starting spot in 2024. Additionally, he may be able to further enhance his skills by playing for a defense under Dan Quinn’s direction. For the Commanders, this is a much-needed addition, and it will be intriguing to watch what their next moves are as they try to build on their successful offseason.
