One of the favorites to win the Premier League by default this year is Leeds United, and it appears the Whites are making plans for the upcoming summer.

The Whites have won 12 of their last 13 games—the other being a draw—and appear to be unbeatable in 2024. If they defeat Millwall at Elland Road on Sunday, they might pass Ipswich Town and tie Leicester City for the same point.

Daniel Farke will need to add more elite players to the squad if Leeds wins promotion. He needs players with more Premier League experience above all else, which is presumably why he is already considering seasoned midfielders who can bolster the team.

If Leeds go to the Premier League next summer, they may try to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to a story from the Sunday Mirror (17 March, page 66).

In an attempt to expand his options in the midfield come summertime, Farke has the 26-year-old midfielder squarely in his sights.

For Leeds United, Sean Longstaff would be a fantastic addition.
At the end of the season, Longstaff will begin the last 12 months of his contract. He is an important member of the Magpies team, and first discussions on a new contract have already taken place.

However, due to his contract situation, Leeds hope to land him for around £15m. The defensive midfielder has made 20 starts in the Premier League for the Magpies and has managed four goals and two assists this season.

Longstaff has played only for Newcastle (apart from loan spells) in his career and has played over 135 Premier League games in his career. Eddie Howe has recently suggested that Longstaff has been playing through a pain barrier for a long time, but he can’t drop him as he has limited options.

Newcastle could be forced to sell some of their key players in the summer to comply with the FFP rules, but whether they would be willing to offload Longstaff remains to be seen.
