One of the teams vying for quarterback Russell Wilson in the NFL’s free agency was the New York Giants. Even though they eventually signed Drew Lock, a recent article has made it quite evident why the team did not make it to the Pro Bowl nine times.
The Giants are getting set to let go of former first-round pick quarterback Daniel Jones, who they signed just a year ago and made one of the highest-paid NFL players. New York has combed the market for competition and upgrades for Jones in 2024 as he recovers from an ACL rupture.
After being cut by the Denver Broncos, Wilson first had meetings with the Pittsburgh Steelers and then the Giants. The Super Bowl champion went to Pittsburgh and ultimately accepted a one-year contract to become the starting quarterback for the Steelers, despite the fact that his meeting with New York’s team officials had gone well.
Wilson has a very straightforward justification for picking the Steelers over New York. Giants executives “didn’t make any promises about playing time,” according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, and they wouldn’t give Wilson the starting position for the next campaign.
