Mike Vrabel, a former linebacker for the New England Patriots, has started a new position at a place that used to be owned by Bill Belichick.
According to NFL Network, Vrabel, the former head coach of the Tennessee Titans who was fired in January, is currently a coaching and personnel consultant with the Cleveland Browns.
When Vrabel arrived in Indianapolis in February to attend the NFL Combine alongside general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski of the Browns, the alliance officially began.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Vrabel played collegiately at Ohio State and now returns to the area after missing out on several head coaching vacancies during this past cycle.
Before going into coaching, 48-year-old Vrabel had a prosperous 14-year professional playing career. He was a player with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009–2010, the Patriots in 2001–2008, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1997–2000. In eight New England seasons, Vrabel appeared in 125 games, making 110 starts. In all, he recorded 606 tackles, 48 sacks, and 55 tackles for loss. In 2017, Vrabel was the defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans before taking over as head coach of Tennessee. From 2014 to 2016, he served as the linebackers coach for Houston. Prior to that, he worked for Ohio State University for three years as an assistant coach, serving as the defensive line coach and linebackers coach respectively.
