The “emergency plan” for Leicester City and Coventry City leaves Leeds United without a promotion.

If the Championship is represented in the FA Cup final, Leeds United may have a “emergency plan” in place and their probable play-off final date modified at short notice.

The YEP brought up the potential problem for Leeds following their correspondence with the EFL prior to their 3-2 loss to Chelsea last month. The FA Cup final is set for this Saturday, May 25, which is a mere twenty-four hours prior to the Championship play-off final on May 26. The prospect of a lower-division team reaching the championship game was not given much thought when scheduling the dates, but it is now a genuine possibility.

Leicester City and Coventry City are both involved in this weekend’s quarter-finals, facing Chelsea and Wolves respectively. And while the other six teams are all in the Premier League, it would only take two unlikely wins from either side to throw the current schedule into chaos.

According to The Mirror, preparations are made in case this happens, and Coventry and Leicester might both be selected for the Championship play-offs. Leicester’s lead over Leeds has shrunk to just three points, and they are now only four points ahead of Ipswich Town. Meanwhile, Coventry is fighting for sixth place.
