Adam Schefter of the Pittsburgh Steelers has revealed that wide receiver Diontae Johnson has been traded to the Carolina Panthers.
Johnson is going to Carolina as Dave Canales’ new top receiver for Bryce Young after rumors that the Steelers were considering arranging a trade including Johnson started to circulate over the past few days.
The Steelers receive a sixth-round pick and cornerback Donte Jackson in exchange. As part of the deal, the Steelers are also shipping a seventh-round pick.
Following a career-low 51 catches in 2023, Johnson’s 717 yards in a season became the lowest total he has had since his rookie year of 2019 (680 yards).
With Calvin Austin III now ranked second behind George Pickens in the depth chart, the Steelers will need receivers more than they did previously. Anticipate Pittsburgh to restock at the position through the draft and free agency.
