After leaving Celtic, Liel Abada is now a player for Charlotte FC.
The 22-year-old winger only signed a new four-year contract with the Scottish Premiership champions last September, which would have kept him under contract until 2027. However, the winger has clinched a move to the Major League Soccer side for a sum in the region of £10 million. Despite the ongoing situation in the Middle East, Brendan Rodgers left the player out of the matchday squad for personal reasons, therefore he hasn’t featured since the team’s victory over Hibs last month.
Charlotte general manager Zoran Krneta said: “Liel has been one of the most exciting young wingers in Europe and we’re delighted to welcome him to Charlotte. He’s an elite goal scorer and chance creator who is a proven winner that is determined to bring trophies home to the Club and our supporters.
“Since making his professional debut, Lager has played in almost 200 games, which is impressive for a 22-year-old. He has also played in Europe’s premier competition, the UEFA Champions League. It is a testament to the quality of Major League Soccer and Charlotte FC’s appeal as a destination for elite foreign talent that a player of his caliber is joining the league.
Director of scouting for Charlotte, Thomas Schaling, continued, saying, “I believe he recognizes that we’re a really ambitious undertaking. We weren’t content with last year’s performances. With Dean Smith, we hope to make a significant advancement. He may be aware that he has a lot of potential to contribute here. We take the Young DP tag very seriously.
