Wigan Warriors star Jai Field set for huge contact decision as NRL move looms

In the World Club Challenge, Wigan Warriors overcame Penrith Panthers, but the controversy surrounding Jake Wardle’s winning try at center field took center stage.

This could have been an unintentional omission of Taylan May’s incredible try-saving save from Jai Field, which demonstrated the Wigan Warriors fullback’s talent and successfully rescued the game.

Naturally, Wigan Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet was all praise for the fullback following the game.

According to Peet, “Jai’s been doing that in Super League,” the Daily Telegraph was told.

“I believe the point I’m trying to make here is that our players showed who they are tonight in the face of some very talented opposition. Jai had been putting off trying for a while.

“I seem to recall a few instances where he did the same thing.

He’s turning into one of those guys that you expect to succeed even when the odds are stacked against him in a one-on-one match. He puts a lot of effort into it. He most likely saved two to three tries tonight, if not more.

He claimed to have attended a few groups whose members didn’t necessarily have as many possibilities or weren’t as well-blooded as other youngsters who followed the same road.

“You should still go and do it, without a doubt. Many people claim that you couldn’t, yet you can nonetheless.

This coincided with the disclosure of his contract circumstances, which include options to stay until the 2024 season.

Field will probably have to decide whether to use these alternatives and remain at DW Stadium or go back to the NRL.

“I have this year and the following year, and we’ll see where things go from there. After next year, I have a few alternatives here at Wigan in my favor, but there are always possibilities,” he remarked.

By the end of next year, that will have been five years. It’s a lengthy assignment.
