Otto Porter Jr., a 30-year-old forward who was traded by the Toronto Raptors to the Utah Jazz after the trade deadline, has no idea where his career will go.
Last week, Tony Jones of The Athletic claimed that Utah is open to letting Porter consider his options, which include a buyout that would enable the 2022 NBA champion to join a another club.
Otto Porter Jr. is expected to sign with the LA Clippers, however the Golden State Warriors are still a possibility.
Porter has only played in 23 games since the beginning of the previous season due to injury, which has plagued him since leaving Golden State for Toronto following the 2022 title.
Though he is now thought to be healthy, the former third overall choice presents a compelling free agency option for clubs in contention should a buyout be arranged in the next few days.
Although Porter has shown interest in rejoining the Warriors, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley thinks the LA Clippers might be Porter’s destination after analyzing projections for five possible buyout possibilities.
In addition to Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers have a wealth of center depth in the form of Ivica Zubac, Mason Plumlee, and Daniel Theis. However, their choices for forward play are more constrained.
Buckley is correct that Porter might play a more defined role for the Clippers, but there’s no denying that a healthy Porter would be a better forward than Dario Saric currently plays for the Warriors.
Though they’re expected to keep it open to prevent future additions to their outrageous luxury tax burden, Golden State has one roster space available for usage. During the 2021–22 season, Porter averaged 8.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 22.2 minutes per game for the Warriors.
