In order to stay under the 2024 salary ceiling, the Buffalo Bills will need to make some big roster changes before free agency officially begins in less than two weeks.
The Bills are presently above the salary cap by more over $41 million, per OverTheCap.com.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter, Buffalo is allegedly considering cutting running back Nyheim Hines in order to improve their cap situation.
After rupturing his ACL last summer, Hines missed the whole 2023 season. The Bills will be able to clear more than $4.6 million in salary space this year if they trade for the running back this year, according Over The salary.
Hines was first acquired by Buffalo in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts before to the 2022 trade deadline.
In exchange for Hines, the Bills sent running back Zack Moss and a conditional 2023 sixth-round selection to the Colts.
Buffalo believed that Hines, who was excellent as a kick and punt returner for Indianapolis, might bring something new to their offense and enhance their special teams return game.
Sadly, Hines had extreme poor luck last summer when he was hurt in a jet-ski accident that required surgery to tear his ACL.
It appears that his stint with the Buffalo Bills is drawing to a close since the team placed him on the non-football injury list for the whole 2023 season.
According to Schefter, Hines will be prepared to go back to the field when training camps start this summer. Given his age of 27, he will likely have a shot to join the roster of at least one team in 2024.
