Indianapolis — BYU may not have the same football pedigree as Notre Dame or Alabama, but offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia wants to show that great athletes can come from Provo, Utah. Earlier this week at the NFL Scouting Combine, Michigan defensive end Jaylen Harrell and Western Michigan’s Marshawn Kneeland praised Suamataia as the best offensive tackle they saw at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. When asked why he thought his name came up frequently among defensive ends, Suamataia cited his toughness.
“Just showing my physicality,” Suamataia explained. “I came from BYU, a smaller school. Just proving that I’m as good as all the other men out here. demonstrating what I can accomplish as a gamer. Suamataia (SOO-ah-Ma-ta-EE-ah) has been steadily improving since the Senior Bowl. He might be a late first- or early second-round pick in the NFL draft. According to Pro Football Focus, Suamataia is ranked 10th among offensive tackles entering the draft and 46th overall.
The BYU lineman could be a target for the Tennessee Titans, who need more skilled offensive linemen. He’s been described as a “dancing bear” due to his swift feet and agility. Suamataia smiled broadly at the comparison.
“Shoot, I gotta stay light on my feet. I adore dancing, and I’m not going to lie to you.” “I just need to stay light on my feet.” “Be versatile and mobile.” Suamataia’s press conference on Saturday was lighthearted and entertaining. He appreciated the opportunity to attend the NFL Scouting Combine this week. When he puts on the helmet, shoulder pads, and helmet, however, the story changes. He brings an attitude to the field that many NFL teams would prefer from a rookie. “I just want to come out and smack some heads.”
