Last season, Joe Flacco breathed new life into the Cleveland Browns.
He helped propel them into the playoffs, which contributed significantly to the team’s success in the latter stages of the season.
Despite his performance, Flacco was only signed for one season, so his NFL career is currently in limbo.
Many Browns supporters, including radio personality Aaron Goldhammer, think the organization should bring him back for the 2024 season.
Goldhammer recently stated that his lone goal for the Browns’ offseason is to see Flacco return as the team’s backup quarterback.
Does it make sense for the Browns to proceed with this move?
They presently have two quarterbacks on their roster: Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Watson has had his fair share of ailments in recent years, and while Thompson-Robinson was a colorful tale at times, the organization hasn’t committed to him long-term.
Flacco may be an older choice, but his success last year has fans thrilled about the potential for the future.
Even if it’s just as a backup, the Browns may placate fans by signing Flacco to a veteran minimum contract.
If given the opportunity to start, Flacco might once again deliver some magic for this squad during the season.
The Browns have a number of crucial decisions to make before the 2024 season, but their quarterback issue is one that they may want to address soon.
Bernie Kosar explains what the Browns should do after signing new OC.
The Cleveland Browns’ 2023 season was divided into two halves.
Their first half of the season was inconsistent, with a seemingly endless quarterback rotation.
At that point in the season, it appeared that all hope for a playoff run was dead.
Enter Joe Flacco.
Flacco transformed this team from a hopeless situation to a playoff participant, and although losing in the Wild Card round, it was evident that the Browns lacked a reliable quarterback.
When looking ahead to the 2024 season, there is reason to believe the Browns can make the playoffs again.
Former Cleveland quarterback Bernie Kosar recently discussed what the Browns should do.
Kosar, who played with the Browns for eight seasons, understands what this club requires to win and what has previously held them back.
If Cleveland has consistent quarterback play in 2024, and their roster remains basically unchanged, they may be able to accomplish the type of success that Kosar mentions.
The real question is, can that quarterback be Deshaun Watson?
Watson hasn’t performed up to expectations since joining Cleveland in 2022, and recent injuries have kept him off the field.
However, due to the guaranteed contract he signed, he will remain with the organization for a few more seasons.
Following last season’s quarterback carousel, it will be intriguing to watch if the Browns add a better backup to Watson this offseason.
Kevin Stefanski has a clear message about Deshaun Watson.
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is “very confident” in quarterback Deshaun Watson.
That’s at least what he told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday.
As indicated in the video, Watson appeared in only six games for Cleveland last season.
Since joining the Browns, Watson has suffered injuries and served a lengthy suspension.
Because of his lack of availability, some are skeptical that he can be “the guy,” but Stefanski seemed to believe otherwise.
Watson won five of the six games he started this season, and his last start, as Stefanski said in the interview, was a monstrous 33-31 road victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Watson did struggle statistically in various areas in 2023, including passing rating (84.3) and completion percentage (61.4), but Stefanski does not appear concerned with Cleveland’s current starting quarterback.
“Obviously, he is sad that he was unable to participate more because of an injury last year. But I know how hard he works, and I know how hard he is currently working in rehab to get back. I have a lot of faith in him and what he’ll be able to accomplish after he completes his rehab and we get started whenever he’s ready.”
Stefanski is looking forward to having Watson available for the entire season.
Stefanski did an excellent job of eliciting something from a chaotic quarterback rotation that includes P.J. Walker and Joe Flacco last year.
While Watson works to regain his throwing ability, hearing his head coach’s confidence is encouraging.
