Indianapolis — On Wednesday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski conducted his annual combine press conference, answering questions for the first time since revamping his offensive staff last month.

Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock, and Dan Labbe reacted to Stefanski’s comments to the media. They begin by discussing Stefasnki and new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey’s planned trip to Los Angeles next week to see Deshaun Watson.

They also talk about Stefanski’s refusal to appoint a play-caller up to this point, as well as the Browns’ efforts to rebuild their offense with fresh ideas and personnel on his staff.

Browns Coach Stefanski Picked Compassion Over Competition to Allow Titans’ Father-Son Reunion

Indianapolis — Under normal circumstances, Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski would have been hesitant to fire an assistant coach who was known for generating All-Pro lineman. However, the Tennessee Titans’ request exceeded usual circumstances. Stefanski and the Browns proved that there is still room for compassion in the competitive NFL. The Browns released offensive line coach Bill Callahan from his contract so he could work alongside his son, first-year Titans coach Brian Callahan.
“We all understand this is business. It’s a kids’ game. It is certainly a business, but that doesn’t mean you don’t treat people with dignity and empathy,” Stefanski said Wednesday at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine at the Indianapolis Convention Center. “We can still treat people how they deserve to be treated.” Last season, the Titans offense struggled, averaging just 18 points per game. The offensive line allowed 64 sacks. Both quarterbacks, Will Levis and Ryan Tannehill, were sidelined due to injuries.

Bill Callahan, long considered as one of the NFL’s top offensive line coaches, will be called on to strengthen that aspect of the Titans offense. Brian Callahan thanked the Browns on Tuesday for their willingness to accommodate.

“Nothing comes simple when you’re in those situations. But, happily, I believe it was such a unique situation for him, me, and the league in general,” Callahan said. “This has never happened before. So I appreciate Cleveland’s willingness to work through that with us. I’m sure they didn’t want him to leave either, since he was under contract. They did not have to. I appreciate their understanding and recognition of the situation’s uniqueness. Nothing is simple in the NFL while you’re on contract.”
