4-star DB Amari Wallace eyeing a Louisville visit
Amari Wallace, a 4-star recruit, is ranked as the 2025 class’s seventh best safety.
Louisville’s coaching staff plans to invite Miami, Florida, Central defensive back Amari Wallace for a visit. Wallace is a top recruit for Louisville.
The 170-pound, 5-foot-11 Wallace has received around 35 scholarship offers. Jeff Brohm has renewed the same offer to the four-star talent that was first made by the former UofL staff.
Among the most influential “super seniors” in college football for the 2024 campaign are Dillon Gabriel and Will Howard.
These veterans may end their long careers with a bang.
The 2024 collegiate football season will mark the end for players who had a year added to their clocks during the pandemic-affected 2020 campaign, should further eligibility exemptions are granted. However, there will always be an unusual number of fifth- and sixth-year seniors on the field as long as those veterans are present. Some athletes have really been enrolled for more than five years, such as Miami tight end Cam McCormick and Utah quarterback Cameron Rising.
Many of the sport’s most anticipated players for the upcoming fall season decided not to enter the NFL Draft and instead to play one more season in college. While some are still on the original rosters they signed back in 2020 and beyond, others were among the most sought-after prospects in the winter transfer portal window.
These so-called “super seniors” aim to emulate the highly skilled veterans who dominated college football last year, such as former Oregon signal-caller Bo Nix and former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Here are college football’s most impactful super seniors for the 2024 season:
Tyler Baron, who joins the Cardinals this summer after moving from Tennessee, is one of only two edge rushers in the 2024 transfer cycle with four full seasons of experience. Baron had plenty of action as a true freshman in 2020 and hasn’t missed a game since. His most successful season to date was one in which he recorded a career-high six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.
In terms of individual focus, Iowa’s strong defense last year’s cornerback Cooper DeJean was surpassed in tackles by linebacker Jay Higgins. As a senior, Higgins not only led the Hawkeyes in stops but also equaled the school record with 171 tackles, which topped all FBS defenders. The All-American, who made his starting debut in 2023, decided to put off entering the NFL Draft this year in order to put more money on himself before he finished his collegiate career.
Florida missed a bowl game the previous season, but Princely Umanmielen had nothing to do with it. After growing over four years with the Gators, he abandoned a team that was losing ground and joined Ole Miss, an SEC rival program. Umanmielen comes into the team in a very important position, and his addition helped the Rebels’ defense improve significantly this offseason. The No. 2 edge rusher on the transfer site had a career-best 2023 year, with seven sacks and 11.5 total tackles for loss.
