With great pleasure, the Western Bulldogs announce Tamara Hyett’s appointment as AFLW senior coach.

Former professional golfer Hyett has been Melbourne’s assistant coach for the past four seasons, gaining a wealth of expertise and experience in the league and contributing significantly to the Demons’ 2022 premiership quest.

She spent three years as the Sandringham Dragons Girls team’s head coach before this.

Hyett additionally received the 2022 AFLCA Women’s Coaching Pathway Scholarship.

“We’re ecstatic to have Tamara join the red, white, and blue as our AFLW senior coach,” Bulldogs Executive Director of Football Chris Grant said.

“Tamara possesses an abundance of expertise and coaching background, specifically in women’s football, along with a firsthand comprehension of what it means to be a professional athlete.

Tamara will be well-positioned to lead this team and direct the development of a gifted group of women because she led one of the top backlines in the competition at Melbourne and participated in a fruitful AFLW program for a considerable amount of time.

“We are eager for Tamara to take this program over as her own.”

Ahead of the 2024 season, when Hyett gets ready to take over as head coach of the AFLW team, Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains reiterated Grant’s thoughts.

“Having someone of Tamara’s caliber join our Club, we’re very excited,” Bains stated.

“During the hiring process, Tamara’s leadership qualities and her ability to articulate her coaching philosophy and goals for our women’s program really stood out to us.

“Her special combination of experience in elite women’s football and elite girls football allows Tamara to create a high-achieving environment that nurtures and develops the talented young players on our list.”

“We are excited to announce this appointment for our AFLW program as we work toward long-term success and reliable performance on the field.”

Hyett expressed her gratitude for the chance and excitement about spearheading the Club’s upcoming phase.

“I’m just really proud of myself; as I drove in here, I was thinking about the last six years and being a girl from the western suburbs,” she remarked.

“Even before the AFLW, this foundation club supported women’s football.” I am aware of how unique that is.

“This is a really refreshing place with some really exciting talent.” I simply can’t get enough of the present group.

Hyett joins the AFLW team as its third senior coach and one of the league’s five female head coaches.
