Welcome to the Tennessee Titans 2024 NFL Free Agency Primer presented by Music City Miracles! The Titans can re-sign their own free agents prior to the start of the legal tampering period, which is March 11th. With complete roster authority at his disposal, general manager Ran Carthon will work with newly hired head coach Brian Callahan to develop the team’s 2024 strategy.

The Titans are expected to have 24 free agents total (19 unrestricted), which includes a number of important role players and starters. We’ll examine each free agent in-depth over the coming weeks and offer justifications for the Titans to sign them again or not. As an addition to our analysis, we’ll provide our ultimate judgment and a forecast.

Westbrook-Ikhine has spent four seasons as a regular member of the Titans’ roster. The unselfish Westbrook-Ikhine stepped up to the plate when players like Julio Jones, Treylon Burks, and Kyle Philips were unable to remain healthy or live up to their expectations. He performs exceptionally well on special teams as well.

A dependable safety net with positional versatility is Westbrook-Ikhine. The Indiana native, a former undrafted free agent, makes excellent routes and reliably completes his task. In the run game, Westbrook-Ikhine can function as an extension of the offensive line and is also a superb blocker. Callahan has expressed his gratitude to blockers in the receiving end.

At receiver, the Titans should aspire higher than Westbrook-Ikhine. In 2023, he caught 28 passes for 370 receiving yards and three touchdowns; his 2021 and 2022 outputs were quite similar to his 2023 performance. With the Titans, Westbrook-Ikhine has already attained his maximum potential.

A favorite of Mike Vrabel’s was Westbrook-Ikhine. A new approach that Coach Callahan is implementing will give preference to receivers with skill sets that differ from what Westbrook-Ikhine can provide. Wide-ranging personnel changes frequently follow changes within the coaching staff. With Vrabel gone, it’s possible that the new leadership no longer thinks well of Westbrook-Ikhine.

decided not issuing Westbrook-Ikhine a tender during the previous offseason, which allowed them to re-sign him for a sum of $1.26 million, which is less than half of the amount of the tender. Westbrook-Ikhine deserves a small rise following yet another strong season.

Westbrook-Ikhine shouldn’t be re-signed by the Titans. It’s ironic, I’ll admit, to see Titans supporters clamoring for another big-bodied receiver with blocking ability in free agency—Jauan Jennings. The wide receiver that the Titans should choose first overall and sign in free agency is someone who can start right away.

The Titans and Westbrook-Ikhine mutually decide to part ways. Regarding free agency, there may be disparities in the priorities of the two parties. It is recommended that Westbrook-Ikhine secure a depth role elsewhere. Callahan lets Westbrook-Ikhine leave in an attempt to retool Tennessee’s pass-catching corps.
