The finest NFL draft picks frequently have an immediate impact while also providing long-term potential. According to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, West Virginia inside offensive tackle Zach Frazier might provide the Detroit Lions with both.
In his second 2024 NFL mock draft, Jeremiah predicted that the Lions will select Frazier 29th overall.

The NFL draft analyst stated that Frazier may initially assist the Lions in replacing their free agency offensive linemen. However, Frazier could eventually replace center Frank Ragnow in Detroit.

“The Lions’ starting guards are scheduled to reach free agency this offseason, and this feels like Dan Campbell’s type of player,” Jeremiah said in a statement. “Frazier, a state-champion wrestler in high school, could step right in at guard and eventually move to center.”

Ragnow made it obvious that he will not retire this summer. However, the six-year veteran center had many injuries in 2023 and has been playing with an inoperable toe for two seasons or more.

Lions fire former starting safety Tracy Walker

Tracy Walker was dismissed by the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, according to ESPN, after the veteran safety wrote a parting message to the team’s social media followers. Walker has spent his entire six-year NFL career with Detroit. He was scheduled to face a $12.82 million cap charge in 2024, the final year of his contract.
“Detroit I’d like to thank you for inviting me in as a rookie and adopting me as family,” Walker posted on Instagram. “I’d want to thank the Ford family for providing me the opportunity to be a part of something great over the past six years. I’d like to thank my followers and supporters for always having my back through it all. I’d like to thank the city for holding down for me. There were many ups and downs, but that’s life, because life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.”
Walker, drafted in the third round in 2018, quickly rose to become the Lions’ starting free safety in his second season. His 2022 season was cut short when he tore his Achilles in Week 3, but he returned to play all 17 regular season games in 2023, starting six. Walker, 29, recorded 59 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups in 2023. In 79 career games (43 starts), he has 398 tackles, three interceptions, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and 23 pass breakups.
