The Minnesota Timberwolves are moving forward with assembling a championship-caliber team.

The Minnesota Timberwolves made headlines on Monday morning when they decided to sign veteran point guard and former Utah Jazz player Mike Conley to a two-year extension, keeping him with the team until the 2025–26 season. The league is still relatively quiet in the days leading up to All-Star Weekend.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the story on Twitter and X, revealing that Conley would return for a two-season contract of $21 million.
Given that he played with the Jazz for three and a half seasons between 2019 and 2023, Conley was a member of the team not too long ago.

He averaged 13.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.8 assists while playing for Utah, which helped him earn three postseason trips and his first career All-Star selection.

At the 2023 trade deadline in February of last year, he was ultimately traded to the Timberwolves in exchange for a package that included the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round pick for the summer of 2027. In the end, it was difficult to part ways with someone who was so important to the Jazz’s success, but he has established himself and grown to be a key member of his new team.

Given Conley’s track record of success and his pivotal role in Minnesota, the Timberwolves should consider this to be a wonderful deal. In the 50 games he’s played this season, he has started every night and helped lead this team to the top seed in the Western Conference at the All-Star break. He now has the chance to build on that accomplishment in the Twin Cities over the course of the next two seasons.

Conley and the rest of this outstanding Timberwolves team will keep improving on their excellent season in an attempt to win their first postseason series since 2004.
