Former Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd Joins Commanders Coaching Staff

It was revealed a little while ago that Teddy Bridgewater, a former quarterback for the Vikings, would take over as head coach of the football team at his high school alma mater. Another former Mike Zimmer player now has a new coaching position.

In the 2013 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected Sharrif Floyd with the 23rd overall choice. According to reports, Floyd will be joining the coaching staff of the Washington Commanders as an assistant defensive line coach under head coach Dan Quinn. The two had already collaborated with the Dallas Cowboys during the previous season. Quinn oversaw the defense, and Floyd was designated as the defensive quality control and assistant defensive line coach.

Remarkably, in spite of the Rex Ryan allegations, Mike Zimmer and the Dallas Cowboys were reunited and Mike Zimmer was named the team’s new defensive coordinator. Sharrif Floyd seems to be more devoted to Dan Quinn, despite having played for Mike Zimmer in Minnesota for the majority of his career. Although most coaches like to keep their assistants with them when they switch teams, this isn’t exactly a shocking discovery, I still felt it was important to bring up.

We should take a close look at the 49ers’ desperate need for another game-winning play.

After a botched surgery ended Sharrif Floyd’s playing career, it’s encouraging to see that he was able to pursue his football career as a coach. Floyd might be an NFL defensive coordinator in 20 years, who knows. If he could find his way back to the Vikings, that would be one awesome story.
