NASHVILLE — Titans coach Brian Callahan has allegedly identified his running back coach. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Titans will hire Randy Jordan as their running backs coach. Jordan joins Callahan’s staff in Nashville following 10 seasons as the Commanders’ running backs coach. He began with Jay Gruden and was kept by Ron Rivera. Callahan hired Jordan after Dan Quinn became the Commanders’ new head coach.

Jordan began his coaching career as an assistant with the Raiders in 2003. He subsequently spent ten years coaching running backs at Nebraska, Texas A&M, and North Carolina before joining Gruden’s Washington staff in 2014. Jordan spent nine seasons in the NFL with the Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars before beginning teaching. Jordan has deep ties to Brian’s father, Bill, who is likely to be the Titans’ offensive line coach. Bill had coached Jordan for the Raiders and hired him at Nebraska while he was head coach.

Steelers are reportedly interested in adding an anti-mentoring veteran to help Kenny Pickett

The Pittsburgh Steelers are allegedly interested in former Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The announcement follows the franchise’s hiring of Arthur Smith.

Smith was fired as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons after three seasons, and he will now return to his play-calling duties for the Steelers. In early February, the team appointed him to be the offensive coordinator.

“It’s such a unique opportunity to be able to work for an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Smith said. “With the history and the culture here, and the opportunity to work with Mike Tomlin, to me it’s a perfect cultural fit.”

Smith formerly served as an offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ryan Tannehill, the quarterback, led the offense.

Tennessee ranked 10th and 4th in scoring during Smith’s two seasons as coordinator, and the playcaller believes Tannehill played a significant role in it.

Shortly after his hire in Pittsburgh, the Steelers appear to be interested in bringing the veteran inside the quarterback room.

Tannehill’s signing would provide an immediate boost in experience to the position, as he appears to take on a mentoring role for third-year starter Kenny Pickett.

Unfortunately, tutelage may not be the passer’s strong strength.

The Titans chose Malik Willis in the same class as Pittsburgh did Pickett, and Tannehill was not interested in teaching the youngster.

“That (competition) is part of being in the quarterback room, the same room,” he said when asked about Willis’ addition to the team. “We’re competing against each other, watching the same footage, and practicing the same techniques. I don’t think it’s my responsibility to mentor him, but if he learns from me along the way, that’s terrific.”

Will he have the same perspective with the Steelers?

Pickett has had an up-and-down NFL career, finishing 14-10 as a starter. While he’s demonstrated his dual threat abilities, he’s thrown more interceptions (13) than touchdowns during his stint as quarterback.

A seasoned presence in the quarterback room could be advantageous as the Steelers attempt to increase competition at the position. Tannehill’s previous comments, however, suggest that he is more interested in surpassing Pickett on the depth chart than in helping him improve.
