The New York Yankees are allegedly still interested in trading for Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease before spring training, but only if their top prospect is excluded from any possible deal.
The early stages of spring training have begun in MLB, with pitchers and catchers from all 30 teams already down south preparing for the 2024 season. The Yankees end the offseason with a lot of hope that they can have a bounce-back season after unexpectedly finishing fourth in the American League East in 2023.
This winter, they made several significant moves, including a blockbuster trade for All-Star Juan Soto and a team-friendly free-agent signing of starting pitcher Marcus Stroman. However, it was recently disclosed that the team would have hoped to sign a top-tier pitcher this winter. Well, there is still a chance they will before the season begins.
New York Yankees are unwilling to deal with Spencer Jones in a Dylan Cease trade.
On Sunday, USA Today MLB insider Bob Nightengale released an intriguing piece of new information about the possibility of the Yankees getting an ace soon. “The New York Yankees are still open to acquiring Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease,” Nightengale said in a statement.
However, there is an impediment to a potential transaction. “[The Yankees] are unwilling to part with top outfield prospect Spencer Jones. “They also turned down the Milwaukee Brewers’ request for Jones before sending Corbin Burnes to Baltimore,” the MLB insider stated.
Jones was the top prospect in New York’s farm system in 2023, according to MLB.com. If they weren’t prepared to give him up for Soto, they certainly won’t for a player who has never been an All-Star. The White Sox have reportedly set a high asking price for the 2022 Cy Young candidate, and the same deal that helped the Orioles land Corbin Burnes was insufficient to entice Cease to leave Chicago.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto explains why he chose the Dodgers over the New York teams.
Several contenders offered Yoshinobu Yamamoto big contracts this offseason. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets reportedly offered him the identical 12-year, $325 million contract, while the New York Yankees were said to have offered him a 10-year, $300 million contract.
While there were allegations that he preferred the West Coast, he informed Joel Sherman of the New York Post that it was not a major influence in his decision. Instead, Yamamoto stated that the primary reason was that the Dodgers were the Dodgers.
The Dodgers are not only coming off 11 consecutive playoff berths, 10 of which came from winning the National League West, but they also recently signed the best player in the sport to a record-breaking $700 million contract.
Shohei Ohtani joined a superstar core that included Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, and the Dodgers made sure to build around those three to win.
Yamamoto and Ohtani watched the Dodgers’ success over the last decade and knew their goals for the future decade.
Despite winning the 2020 World Series, Dodgers personnel convinced Ohtani that the previous decade had been a failure.
The Dodgers want to win at the top level.
