NASHVILLE — Ryan Tannehill, the quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, is set to become a free agency soon, and it has been reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are considering signing him. Running back Derrick Henry is among the 24 Titans players whose contracts are up for renewal, including Tannehill. The Pittsburgh Steelers are anticipated to take into consideration reuniting Tannehill with former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, per an NFL Network report.

“With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the expectation is Pittsburgh will explore adding free agent Ryan Tannehill, who had his best years with the Titans while Smith was the OC there,” according to NFL insiders.
Tannehill, 35, spent the previous five seasons as a player for the Titans. He spent six years as a player for the Miami Dolphins prior to that. Tannehill is a Titans player who has started 63 games and won 39 of them. From 2019 to 2021, he had a key role in guiding the Titans to three straight postseasons. Smith served as Tannehill’s offensive coordinator for the Titans during his first two postseason campaigns.

Ryan Tannehill began 2019 as Marcus Mariota’s backup but gradually moved up to the starting spot. He passed for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just six interceptions in 12 games, 10 of which he started. The Tennessee Titans advanced to their first AFC Championship Game since 2002 thanks in part to Tannehill’s efforts. The next season, Tannehill completed 65.5% of his throws for 3,819 yards with a career-high 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
In 10 games and eight starts the previous season, Tannehill completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Due to his injury struggles, Tannehill finally lost his starting position to rookie Will Levis. Considering that Tannehill was not mentioned in the press conference held by new coach Brian Callahan, it appears doubtful that the Tennessee Titans will re-sign him. All signs point to Levis as the team’s future quarterback. But Tannehill might be able to learn something from Smith’s teaching, in which case this arrangement would be advantageous to both sides.
