Former Villa scout Bryan King claims that Aston Villa President of Football Operations Monchi will depart the team in the event that manager Unai Emery does.

The official Aston Villa website (16 June 2023) states that Monchi was hired for the position last summer after leaving Sevilla, where he held the position of Director of Football.

King thinks that by bringing genuine quality to the Midlands, the chairman and Emery have elevated Villa to the top six Premier League teams.

“They look as they are certainly a top six team, that’s for sure,” King stated in an interview with Villa News. They weren’t like that until Monchi and Emery arrived.

“They’ve added quality there with Monchi’s work on recruitment and Emery’s coaching and teamwork. Despite this, not many people have been hired because of the pay. It was the majority of the players.

To put it another way, Monchi is present as long as Emery is. He will depart as well if Emery does. After all this season, there has been talk of them competing for a top four spot, it should be exciting to watch them now. How far they will travel in Europe is another matter.

They have also advanced to the Europa Conference League’s knockout stages, having won their group with four victories, one tie, and one defeat.

But after a disheartening loss to Chelsea on Wednesday, February 7, in the FA Cup fourth round, Villa will now look to rebound against Manchester United in the league on Sunday, February 11.

In other Aston Villa news, Don Goodman described one of the team’s 85% stars as “electric” after he excelled in the team’s most recent victory over Sheffield United.
