SAN FRANCISCO: On Friday, throngs of ardent supporters of the San Francisco 49ers traveled to Las Vegas in anticipation of Super Bowl 58.
At 1:00 p.m., when the completely filled gate agents donned Niners apparel and encouraged passengers with tunes like “Niner Gang,” Many of the passengers on the United Airlines trip to Sin City were dressed in red and gold when they boarded.
The majority of the Bay Area football fans KTVU spoke with will be cheering on the team at a casino watch party. “We’re all pumped and stoked,” said Bay Area resident Charlie Krystofak. “It’s going to be a great trip.” Fitzpatrick, of Pacifica, said while flaunting his Niners-themed letterman jacket. “Got the five patches, looking forward to starting another row right over here with a sixth patch, hopefully, Monday morning,” Fitzpatrick, of Pacifica said as he displayed his Niners-themed letterman jacket.
“There will be more 49ers fans there than Chiefs fans, I would believe, since its closer to the West Coast,” Scott Taylor remarked. “I think we’ll dominate. Dominate on the field and off the field.” Tom Evegan of Kentucky is one of the lucky few who scored tickets to the big game. For Evegan, Niners football is a family tradition. “Grandfather introduced me to Joe Montana, got to be on the field, new stadium, met Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, diehard Niners fan,” Evegan said.
Fans are flying in from all around the world, including Australia.
“I visited New Orleans for Super Bowl 47. failed to win. Super Bowl 54 was held in Miami once more. Graeme Pollard, who traveled from Sydney, Australia, then took a connecting trip from San Francisco to Las Vegas, said to KTVU, “didn’t win that either.” “And now I’m hoping it’s third time lucky.”
Mario Garcia declared, “I’m from Mexico City, Pachuca, Hidalgo.” “I’m going to the Super Bowl.”
Upon crossing the jet bridge, every traveller discovered a 49ers rally towel, complete with the team’s rally cry, “do it for the bay,” sewn into the headrest of their seat.
Even “Alex,” the therapy rabbit at SFO, boarded the Niners train and arrived at the gate celebration in a remote-controlled toy truck with a Niners flag out the back and a rally towel covering the hood.
United Airlines confirmed to KTVU that they transported the 49ers players, staff, and family from San Jose to Vegas over the weekend.
During the week of the Super Bowl, the airline operated five more flights from San Francisco, carrying around 1,000 passengers to the game.
