Detroit Lions fans are still reeling over their team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Watching the Niners play in the Super Bowl on Sunday is unlikely to assist with that rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, the Detroit Pistons aren’t helping fans move forward either. The Pistons entered Wednesday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings with the NBA’s lowest record, 6-43. That was unlikely to improve with a 2-20 record on the road.

The Kings’ game production staff could have easily ridiculed the Pistons by airing footage (lowlights?) from their disastrous season so far. However, the team chose to be more imaginative and go a little deeper when teasing the visiting team.

As the Pistons’ lineup was announced, a video of Brandon Aiyuk’s remarkable third-quarter reception against the Lions, which came after a ricochet off Kindle Vildor’s helmet for a 51-yard jolt, played on the scoreboard.

That was a fairly good dig at Detroit sports, if not a direct shot at the Pistons. However, this could have inspired the tourists. Jaden Ivey scored a career-high 37 points to help the Pistons win 133-120, maybe their best game of the season.

The 2023-24 season will be remembered most for Detroit’s 28-game losing run, which set an NBA record. However, the Pistons may be showing some fight as a youthful core of talent develops and the front office refines the team through deals to provide better shooting and spacing.

Perhaps they’re still upset about the Lions’ playoff loss.
