Daniel Farke has reassured Leeds United fans that Wilfried Gnonto’s injury against Plymouth on February 6 was not serious and that he should be fit to face Rotherham.
The manager praised Gnonto’s “clinical” finish despite the fact that he had suffered a knock before scoring, and he was replaced just four minutes later as a precaution.
Farke went on to clarify that the problem was merely a little bruising on his foot, thus the Italian forward should be OK for Saturday’s game against Rotherham at Elland Road.
Farke told Leeds Live after the game: “It was a hit on his foot, even slightly before the goal, but he was then there with a clinical and tidy finish.” It’s not that severe, just a small bruise; I should be well by Saturday.”
Good news for Gnonto on Elland Road.
Some more good news has come, not only with Leeds progressing to the fifth round after a difficult FA Cup clash, but also with concerns over an injury blow in the process being alleviated.
Despite a decreased role under Farke, when he was frequently on the bench rather than beginning, despite being one of the most known and highly-rated players at the club, he made 22 league games this season, although only eight of those from the start.
However, with a well-taken goal against Plymouth, he demonstrated that he can still step up when needed upon, and it will be a relief to have him fit and available for Saturday’s Yorkshire derby against Rotherham.
The winger has been the subject of much transfer speculation since the summer window, but he has remained at Elland Road and has performed admirably whenever called upon, whether starting or coming off the bench, earning himself a new deal.
In other Leeds United news, Georginio Rutter was enthralled by the crowd against Plymouth.
