Christian McCaffrey’s mother wanted a break as the 49ers trailed the Lions by 17 points in the first half of the NFC Championship game.

When thinking on last month’s NFC title game, McCaffrey’s mother, Lisa, confessed that she “started bawling” in a separate restroom before San Francisco rallied for a 34-31 victory over Detroit, securing a spot in the Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas.

“I left where we were sitting and went into the gender-neutral bathroom, because it was a private bathroom, shut the door, locked it, and just started bawling,” Lisa recounted on the latest episode of the “Your Mom” podcast.

“It was terrible. I was crying, and people were coming in and out of our little suite, and nobody could say the right thing, and it wasn’t them; it was just nobody could say the right thing, and I was literally welling up, so I just ran in, the bathroom happened to be open, I locked the door, and cried for 10 minutes, and then we got back out there and preserved.

McCaffrey, in his first full season with the 49ers since being traded by the Panthers in 2022, carried for 90 yards and two scores in San Francisco’s stunning comeback victory to advance to his first Super Bowl.

“That was the most emotional game I’ve ever witnessed in my life,” Lisa said

Lisa and her husband, Ed, a former NFL receiver who won a Super Bowl with the 49ers, joined their son on the field at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., where they also celebrated with the running back’s fiancée, model Olivia Culpo.

Culpo, 31, who announced her engagement to McCaffrey, 27, in April, said Friday that she bought an Allegiant Stadium suite for Lisa, who earlier said the rates were too much.

The Suite Experience Group, which provides access to premium suites at sporting events and concerts, estimates that Super Bowl suites will cost between $1.4 million and $2.5 million on average.

The Super Bowl 2024 between the 49ers and the Chiefs begins at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
