Man killed in Ozark standoff identified
WTVY, Ozark, Alabama – Following a dramatic pursuit by police and state troopers, a man who had been shot by policemen had threatened individuals and drew a knife at an All-In Credit Union store in Ozark.
About five miles away, on Hub Street, there was a standoff between the pursuer and the police. The suspect, named by Dale County Coroner John Cawley as 47-year-old Boyd D. Phillips, was shot by ALEA SWAT officers.
Shortly after the standoff, Cawley declared Phillips dead at Dale Medical Center. No cops were hurt in the incident, according to a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Investigation results will, by protocol, be given to Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams, who will then determine whether or not to present them before grand jurors.
