According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Minnesota Vikings may be one of the teams looking to select a quarterback in the first round of the NFL draft in April. The 35-year-old Kirk Cousins is coming off an Achilles injury that ended his season, and his contract is set to expire in March. According to Fowler, there is a perception throughout the league that, given Cousins’s unclear future with the team, the Vikings, who now own the No. 11 choice, would try to jump up into the top three in the draft and select a quarterback.

As well, eyes are on the Minnesota Vikings at No. 11 from all throughout the league. They spent a lot of time this offseason studying quarterbacks, and since Kirk Cousins’ future in Minnesota is still up in the air as a free agent, they may eventually want to choose one early in the draft,” wrote Fowler on Sunday.

Although Cousins expressed his desire to begin contract negotiations with Minnesota in late January, he anticipates that talks won’t start until March, when his current contract is about to expire, according to an interview he gave to Sky Sports. After playing with the Vikings for the previous six seasons, Cousins was having a great season in 2023 with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games before he suffered the Achilles injury.
