Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans From the Pro Bowl
Although Derrick Henry is in town, coach Brian Callahan’s staff is being assembled in Nashville, and that’s where the real Titans action is happening. I came down here for a little break to work on another Titans mailbag. In case you haven’t seen this week’s coverage from down here: -This is a piece I wrote about Derrick Henry that includes his outlook on the future: CLICK RIGHT HERE. -This is a narrative I wrote following a comprehensive discussion with Peyton Manning on the late Frank Wycheck, Will Levis, quarterbacking, incoming head coach Brian Callahan, and Henry. What is the question? Hello Jim, I’m writing to you from NYC while on vacation. After all this walking, I’m going to need another one! I’ve always been interested in the specifics of hiring new NFL coaches. Is the process quick? Does Coach Callahan move and start working immediately away? I presume the same applies to the departing coach as well: pack your luggage, since you’re going!? Perhaps a stupid inquiry, but I’m intrigued. I hope everything is good with you!
Jim: Neil, it seems like you’ve been walking a lot! Building his coaching staff has been Coach Callahan’s ongoing task. You must have seen him at his January 25 press conference. The following day, he returned to the office and hasn’t left since. Coaches arrived in Nashville for interviews, so he made the decision not to travel to Mobile for the Senior Bowl. His family will eventually move from Cincinnati to Nashville to live with him, I’m sure. Vrabel, on the other hand, left shortly after learning on January 9 that he would be fired. After receiving word, he informed his colleagues of the situation and left. Randy Duke is a Jim: Hello, Randy. I also saw that rumor. No, is the response. Not alterations, not new attire. The light blue jerseys the team has worn in the past (prior to the Oilers throwbacks) are the only item that might be an option, but that is still up in the air. Hello, Jim! When are the NFL schedules made public? Could you comment on Coach Callahan’s preparation and performance versus his former team? Are there any benefits to coaching against them now compared to being the OC there last year?
Jim: For the timetable release, early May. As of right now, the opponents are known, but not the dates. Concerning any advantages Callahan may have over his former squad,Good morning, Jim. Reading your most recent mailbag and learning that you joined the Titans at the same time that I began working in an office instead of doing physical labor makes me laugh. I didn’t realize you had just started writing mailbags at the same time I started reading them when I started reading the mailbag during a break at work. I must add that they have been consistently professional from the beginning to the end, and for that, I am grateful. My query now is… A couple friends and I have been debating who we would choose if Alt and Bowers were both available in some way. They say Alt because, at the moment, our O-line is the most critical need. and Gronk, who have each won several Super Bowls. If I could trade up for him, I wouldn’t mind. It’s a risk, I realize, but then so is selecting any offensive lineman. Ask Jon Robinson. If you could choose between the two players, which would you take? Jim: Thank you so much, Josh. Interesting idea, huh. I can’t predict what will happen in the draft since free agency takes precedence. What would happen if the Titans signed a star free agent tackle? Does that affect the draft in any way? Perhaps. I think Bowers is an amazing talent who can change the game.I hope everything is good for you and your family. Just to mention, I’m a huge fan of Mike V. I believe that any coach would find it difficult given the circumstances in which he and Ran were placed. I also know that the players appear to respect and, above all, love him. I am aware of his shortcomings, but nobody is flawless. I’ve read that Callahan didn’t call plays despite holding the role of offensive coordinator and that he was surrounded by a number of decent to great quarterbacks, some of whom were already exceptional. God bless you and I am grateful for all that you do.
