Steelers announce hiring of Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator
.The Pittsburgh Steelers hired Arthur Smith as their offensive coordinator on Friday, three days after concluding their courting of the player.
Smith, 41, led the Atlanta Falcons as their head coach for the previous three seasons. He was the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator for two seasons prior.
Smith had an interview with the Steelers on Sunday, and the team hired him the day before the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. The unveiling of the offensive coordinator was postponed because head coach Mike Tomlin was in Mobile during the week scouting players for the 2024 draft.

In each of Smith’s three seasons as head coach, the Falcons finished 7-10. When he collaborated with seasoned quarterback Ryan Tannehill and workhorse running back Derrick Henry in Tennessee, he was more successful as offensive coordinator.
In 2020, Smith’s second season leading the Tennessee offense, the Titans finished fourth in points scored and had the NFL’s second-best running game.
Smith has a reputation for working with running backs. Najee Harris, a three-time 1,000-yard rusher, and, a versatile back, will lead this group. Last season, all three of the Steelers’ backs had more over 1,000 scrimmage yards.who was sacked in November while serving as offensive coordinator for his third season, is replaced by Smith. For the remainder of the season, Eddie Faulkner, the running backs coach, served as the acting coordinator. On game day, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan called the plays.
