The previous offseason, Jacoby Brissett was signed by the Washington Commanders to a $8 million, one-year contract. He played in just two Commanders games, which were in Weeks 15 and 16. Brissett performed like he has throughout his career in those two games: he came out and put up respectable numbers, throwing for three touchdowns and zero picks. Additionally, Brissett might benefit his previous Cleveland Browns squad.

Washington is projected to draft a quarterback with the No. 2 pick this offseason, thus it seems likely that they will move on from him. As a result, Brissett is free to sign with any team, maybe even a contender. Brissett was one of the seven inexpensive NFL free agents that Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox listed.

This offseason, there isn’t a lot of quarterback talent available on the free agent market. Although it’s doubtful if a team will sign him to start, he could be a reliable backup.

Jacoby Brissett is positioned in between the likely starters and the committed backups. He signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Washington Commanders over the summer, but he was never given the opportunity to start over Sam Howell, the team’s second-year signal-caller.

When called upon, Jacoby Brissett has demonstrated his ability to perform his job.

Since joining the league in 2016, the 31-year-old has filled in as a starter and backup when necessary. When called upon, he has performed his duties. He demonstrated that by starting games for the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns in two of the previous three seasons.

He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,608 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in the 2022 campaign.

Brissett should be kept if the Washington Commanders choose to select a quarterback in the draft. It’s important for veterans to mentor younger players, and he can provide that guidance to whichever youngster they ultimately pick. Knox discussed such concept in his writing.

But Brissett has previously demonstrated that he is a capable bridge starter. In his limited appearance last season, he was much better (146.8) for the Commanders than he was for the Browns, where he recorded a solid 88.9 QB rating. For a team wanting to select a rookie with a high draft pick or with uncertainty at the position, he would be a perfect addition.

It Would Make Sense to Return to the Cleveland Browns.
In 2023, Deshaun Watson sustained a serious injury that required surgery to fix a dislocated fracture in his right glenoid. He had surgery, and it is anticipated that in 2024 he will be back to full health.

Joe Flacco was a season-long addition to the Cleveland Browns roster who well exceeded all expectations. Having completed four games with at least 300 yards passing, he guided them to the postseason.

A return to the Browns makes sense, according to Knox of Bleacher Report.
